Founded in 2018 by Helle Herman Mortensen, Jonas Herman Pedersen and Lasse Lund Lauridsen, Form & Refine was built on a single conviction: that materials should be traceable to their origin, and crafted there. Danish ash, maple and oak come from the Damsbo forest on Funen and are cut at a Danish sawmill and made in Denmark; ceramics are thrown in Alcobaça, a Portuguese town known for its pottery tradition; alpaca textiles are woven with Bolivian cooperatives where the animals are raised. Production stays in Europe for all furniture and wooden objects, keeping the distance between source and workshop as short as possible.

Every piece begins with a place: Danish ash from the Damsbo forest, ceramics from Alcobaça, alpaca from the Bolivian highlands.

Modest silhouettes, exacting details

The design direction, led by Herman Studio, favours clear, simple outlines that let texture and grain speak — Nordic minimalism with a preference for timelessness over trend, intended to gain beauty and character as the years pass. The brand avoids aluminium, conventional plastics and chemical agents; packaging is recycled cardboard or rPET; and social partnerships, like work with Copenhagen's Hans Knudsen Institute, run alongside the environmental ones. Signature pieces include the Shoemaker Chair™ — a refinement of a centuries-old Danish workshop stool — and the A-Line series.
