Nani Marquina founded nanimarquina in 1987 with the aim of turning the classic rug into a contemporary design object.

The Barcelona-led house works with designers and master weavers in India and Pakistan, using hand processes that leave each rug with its own material character.

The hand of the weaver remains visible in the room.

Why this house holds attention.

nanimarquina has helped position the rug as a designed spatial object rather than a finishing accessory. International designers, colour research and documented hand-production connect the Barcelona studio to weaving communities and contemporary interiors around the world.

A rug as an active field.

Losanges is not a background layer. Its irregular geometry, colour and hand-worked surface make the floor part of the composition.

Why this house, here.

Our editorial position, separated clearly from the house’s official record.

01 · The relationship

Objena values nanimarquina because a rug can organise a room before furniture is added, giving colour, acoustic softness and craft a structural role. The house also provides a strong basis for discussing origin and production rather than selling pattern alone.

02 · What to notice

Notice construction as closely as colour. Knot, weave, fibre and finishing determine how an image becomes a durable floor object, and different techniques change the surface, edge, maintenance and way a rug ages.

  1. 01 All manufacturing operations take place with artisan rug makers in India and Pakistan.
  2. 02 Traditional hand-powered looms produce natural variation rather than machine-perfect repetition.
  3. 03 The company has collaborated with Care & Fair since 2002 to support rug-making communities.
  1. 1987 Nani Marquina establishes the company in Barcelona.
  2. 1993 Production moves to India to work with established rug-making traditions.
  3. 2002 The company begins its collaboration with Care & Fair.

01 When did nanimarquina begin?

Nani Marquina founded the company in 1987 with a new proposition for its time: treating the traditional rug as a contemporary design product while keeping craft central to the result.

03 How should a nanimarquina rug be maintained?

The official care guidance recommends frequent vacuuming, treating spills before they dry and using a specialist rug cleaner only when necessary. Handmade variation is a characteristic of the process, not a flaw.
