From Hokkaido to Milan: The Logic of Time & Style ēdition

How Time & Style ēdition carries Japanese solid wood and washi lighting into Boffi | DePadova’s international interior system without erasing their origin.

International expansion can make a furniture brand easier to buy and harder to understand. Time & Style ēdition is interesting because its stated purpose is not to disguise Japanese objects as Italian ones. The collaboration with Boffi | DePadova places solid timber furniture and washi lighting inside an established international interior system while keeping craft, material and origin visible.

Two design cultures, one interior system

Time & Style and Boffi | DePadova announced their partnership in 2020. The 2022 Time & Style ēdition brought together twenty-four pieces across chairs, dining and low tables, armchairs, storage and lighting. Boffi | DePadova describes the collection as a contemporary evolution of Japanese wood craftsmanship, designed to sit with its kitchens, architectural systems and De Padova furniture without becoming a decorative “Japanese” layer.

The fit is structural. Both companies present the home as an integrated environment rather than a set of independent categories. Time & Style contributes timber knowledge, hand processes, washi, restrained proportion and a network of Japanese craftspeople. Boffi | DePadova contributes an international specification and showroom system able to position those objects within complete residential projects.

Washi as construction and atmosphere

Washi is often described only by the softness of the light it produces. In the ēdition context it also demonstrates how a traditional material can solve contemporary spatial needs. Cedar or linden structures give the shade its rhythm; paper filters glare, keeps the volume visually light and reveals the hand-built frame. The result is neither a sculptural lamp that ignores the room nor a technical fitting that disappears entirely.

Translation without flattening

The strongest international partnerships do more than increase distribution. They establish what cannot be lost in translation. For Time & Style, that includes the tactile reading of solid wood, the value of hand-finishing, the relationship between modest forms and long use, and the attribution of specialist material traditions. For Boffi | DePadova, it includes the ability to coordinate these pieces with architecture, kitchens, storage and other furniture at project scale.

That distinction matters commercially as well as culturally. A global showroom network can make the collection visible, but visibility does not replace product knowledge. The person specifying a washi light still needs dimensions, electrical certification, maintenance guidance and a realistic production route. The person ordering a solid-timber table needs finish samples, access checks and written lead time. The partnership is credible when the international system carries those details with the object instead of reducing provenance to a campaign image.

A 2023 Designer’s Days installation in Paris made that translation spatial. Bombori, Lantern and Nagoya lights were shown with Japanese-style graphics and the wider Boffi | DePadova environment. Washi and timber were not separated into a craft display; they performed as light and partition within a contemporary room.

Why this matters to Objena

Time & Style ēdition demonstrates that the brand can operate internationally without abandoning an environmental way of presenting objects. It is also a useful warning: the full Time & Style house and the Boffi | DePadova ēdition are related but not interchangeable commercial structures. Product rights, territory, collection access and authorised wording must be confirmed with the relevant party before Objena makes any offer.

For the proposed Australian relationship, Objena’s preferred model is equally explicit. Begin with an approved editorial and specification environment, make stock and made-to-order routes clear, and grow toward a dedicated physical presentation only through written agreement. The ambition is not to borrow prestige from Milan. It is to give clients a complete, accountable route from source and material to room and aftercare.
